TikTok Shop Seller Fees: What US Sellers Pay in 2026

SellersNest·

For most US categories, TikTok Shop charges sellers a 6% referral fee on each qualified order. Some categories use a 5% rate, so the percentage in your Seller Center is the final authority. The referral fee is only the starting point: creator commissions, promotion programs, fulfillment, returns, product cost, and advertising can make the real cost of a TikTok Shop sale much higher.

Use the TikTok Shop fee calculator to estimate a payout and profit with editable rates, or follow the formulas and examples below.

How much does TikTok Shop take from sellers?

TikTok Shop's official US policy lists a 6% referral fee on qualified transactions and shows a 5%–6% range depending on category. A qualified order is a completed order. Listing products and opening a standard seller account do not create a per-listing charge.

The official US referral-fee formula is:

Referral fee = referral-fee rate × (customer payment + platform discount − tax)

A platform-funded discount is added back into the fee base. In other words, a coupon funded by TikTok can reduce what the shopper pays without necessarily reducing the amount used to calculate your referral fee. Tax is subtracted from the fee base.

Fee-base amountReferral rateReferral feeAmount after referral fee
$25.006%$1.50$23.50
$50.006%$3.00$47.00
$100.006%$6.00$94.00
$100.005%$5.00$95.00

These figures show only the referral fee. They are not the final payout or profit.

Is there a separate TikTok Shop payment-processing fee?

TikTok Shop's current US settlement documentation marks the old transaction fee as no longer applicable to current orders. The referral fee is the standard platform charge. Your settlement report can still contain other deductions, including affiliate commission, shipping, refund administration fees, promotion charges, fulfillment fees, adjustments, and advertising balance top-ups.

That distinction matters when comparing TikTok Shop with platforms that show a marketplace fee and payment-processing fee as separate lines. Always compare the complete transaction, not one headline percentage.

TikTok Shop costs beyond the 6% referral fee

Creator and affiliate commission

If a creator drives the order, the seller may pay an affiliate commission at the rate selected for that collaboration. TikTok's US terms say sellers decide the commission offered to creators and partners. This is separate from the referral fee.

For a simple $50 sale with a 15% creator commission:

  • TikTok Shop referral fee at 6%: $3.00
  • Creator commission at 15%: $7.50
  • Total of those two percentage costs: $10.50
  • Revenue left before product and fulfillment costs: $39.50

A creator rate can produce profitable reach, but it should be approved against contribution margin rather than gross sales. The guide to contribution margin for ecommerce explains how to set that limit.

Smart Promotion fees

TikTok Shop introduced updated US Smart Promotion terms in September 2026. The official FAQ describes a 3.5% seller contribution in non-campaign periods and a higher contribution during campaign periods, commonly 4.5% under the published program structure. TikTok provides a platform discount at least equal to the seller's contribution, but the seller contribution is still a real order cost.

Smart Promotion is not the same as the standard 6% referral fee. If you join it, model the contribution as an additional percentage. Check the rate displayed for the exact campaign because program terms can change.

Advertising

TikTok Shop Ads and GMV Max spending are marketing costs, not part of the standard referral percentage. Measure them with return on ad spend and contribution profit. A campaign can show strong revenue while losing money after creator commission, product cost, returns, and fulfillment. Use the ROAS vs. ROI guide when setting campaign targets.

Shipping and fulfillment

Seller Shipping, TikTok Shipping, and Fulfilled by TikTok can create different shipping, label, handling, storage, and return charges. Use the actual transaction or FBT rate card for your product. Weigh the packed parcel, not the unpacked item, and check bulky packages with the dimensional-weight calculator.

How TikTok Shop refunds affect seller fees

When an order is refunded or returned, TikTok Shop refunds the related referral fee but retains a Refund Administration Fee equal to 20% of the referral fee. Since May 15, 2025, the administration fee has been capped at $5 per SKU.

For example, a $50 fee-base amount at 6% produces a $3 referral fee. On a full refund:

  • Original referral fee: $3.00
  • Refund Administration Fee: $0.60
  • Referral fee returned to the seller: $2.40

The product sale also disappears, and the seller may face return shipping, damaged inventory, packaging loss, or a non-refundable creator commission depending on when the return happens. The return cost calculator helps turn those losses into a per-order allowance.

A realistic TikTok Shop profit example

Assume a product sells for $50 with no tax included in the fee base. The order uses a 6% referral rate and a 15% creator commission. Your product costs $16, fulfillment costs $5, and packaging costs $0.75.

Line itemAmount
Sale amount$50.00
Referral fee (6%)−$3.00
Creator commission (15%)−$7.50
Product cost−$16.00
Fulfillment−$5.00
Packaging−$0.75
Estimated profit$17.75
Estimated profit margin35.5%

If the same order also carries a 3.5% Smart Promotion contribution, subtract another $1.75. Estimated profit becomes $16.00, or 32%. Advertising, return allowance, labor, and overhead would reduce it further. Check the final result with the profit margin calculator.

How to price a TikTok Shop product for target profit

If percentage costs all use approximately the same base, this planning formula provides a useful starting point:

Target price = (fixed order costs + target profit) ÷ (1 − combined percentage rates)

Suppose product, fulfillment, and packaging cost $21.75. You want $15 profit, and the order may carry a 6% referral fee plus a 15% creator commission:

($21.75 + $15) ÷ (1 − 0.21) = $46.52

Adding a 3.5% promotion contribution increases the combined percentage to 24.5%:

($21.75 + $15) ÷ (1 − 0.245) = $48.68

This shortcut is a planning model, not a settlement statement. Discounts, taxes, shipping subsidies, refunds, and category rules may use different bases. Enter the rates shown in Seller Center before approving a product price or creator offer.

How to reconcile a TikTok Shop payout

TikTok Shop's settlement report is the best record of what happened to each order. In Seller Center, export the report from the Finance area and review it at SKU level. Reconcile these groups separately:

  • Net sales: gross sales, refunds, and seller discounts.
  • Shipping: customer-paid shipping, seller charges, incentives, FBT fees, and return shipping.
  • Fees: referral fee, refund administration fee, affiliate commissions, partner commissions, and shop-ads commission.
  • Adjustments: reimbursements, logistics corrections, promotion adjustments, chargebacks, policy deductions, and other account entries.

Do not treat a payout deposit as profit. Match the settlement report with cost of goods and business expenses, then measure the result per SKU. Products that look similar in revenue can have very different profit after creator and return costs.

Ways to protect your TikTok Shop margin

  • Use the category rate shown in Seller Center. Do not assume every product receives the same 6% rate.
  • Set a creator-commission ceiling. Work backward from the minimum profit you need per order.
  • Model promotions before joining. Add the program contribution to the referral and affiliate rates.
  • Create a return allowance. Use your actual return rate and average loss per return.
  • Keep shipping data accurate. Wrong weights and dimensions can create logistics adjustments.
  • Improve the listing before increasing ad spend. Clear copy and accurate images reduce wasted clicks and avoidable returns. See the guides to product descriptions that sell and marketplace product-image sizes.
  • Track customer acquisition cost. Creator and ad spending should be evaluated together rather than in separate dashboards. Use the customer acquisition cost guide.

TikTok Shop seller fee FAQ

What percentage does TikTok Shop take in the US?

Most US qualified orders use a 6% referral fee. TikTok's official examples show a 5%–6% range depending on category, so confirm your product's rate in Seller Center.

Does TikTok Shop charge a listing fee?

Standard product listings do not have a per-listing charge. The referral fee applies when a qualified order is completed.

Is creator commission included in the 6% fee?

No. Affiliate or creator commission is a separate cost set for the collaboration. A creator-generated sale can therefore carry both the referral fee and the selected creator rate.

What fee does TikTok Shop keep after a refund?

TikTok Shop generally refunds the referral fee but retains 20% of that fee as a Refund Administration Fee, capped at $5 per SKU under the rule effective since May 15, 2025.

How often should sellers check TikTok Shop fee rates?

Check before launching a new product, joining a campaign, or changing creator commissions, and reconcile a recent settlement report at least monthly. TikTok may update fees and programs through Seller Center notices.

Bottom line

The standard US TikTok Shop referral fee is usually 6%, but profitable pricing must include every order cost: referral fee, creator commission, promotion contributions, advertising, fulfillment, product cost, packaging, and returns. Use your category rate and settlement data rather than relying on a marketplace-wide headline.
