How is the monthly storage fee worked out?
Amazon charges per cubic foot of space your inventory occupies, with standard-size and oversize items billed at different rates. Rates roughly triple in October to December for peak holiday demand, so the same inventory costs far more to store over Q4.
What triggers the aged inventory surcharge?
It stacks on top of the normal storage fee once stock has sat for more than 180 days, climbing through several tiers as it ages further. Clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and watches are exempt from the earlier tiers, with their surcharge starting at 271 days like everything else.
Do these rates ever change?
Yes, Amazon has updated storage and surcharge rates more than once, most recently in January 2026. Check Seller Central's own fee schedule for your account before relying on this for accounting, and adjust the numbers above if yours differ.
