How Much Does Poshmark Take? Seller Fees Explained

Poshmark seller fees are simple at first glance, but the $15 threshold creates very different effective rates for low-priced items. In the United States, Poshmark currently charges a flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and a 20% commission on sales of $15 or more. That means a $5 sale and a $14 sale have the same dollar fee, even though the effect on profit is very different.

This guide explains how much Poshmark takes, what you keep at common sale prices and how to set a list price that survives offers, product cost and seller-funded discounts. For a quick estimate, use the free Poshmark Fee Calculator.

How much does Poshmark take in the US?

Poshmark’s current US seller fee has two bands:

  • Sale price under $15: $2.95 flat fee
  • Sale price of $15 or more: 20% commission, so the seller keeps 80%

Poshmark says listing is free. Its current seller information also says there is no separate monthly cost. The selling fee is deducted when an item sells.

The basic payout formulas are:

Under $15: Net payout = Sale price − $2.95

$15 or more: Net payout = Sale price × 0.80

These formulas show the payout after the standard Poshmark seller fee, not the seller’s final profit. Product cost, packaging, sourcing travel, cleaning, labour, tax and any seller-funded promotion still matter.

$10.00$2.95$7.0529.5%
$14.00$2.95$11.0521.1%

$50.00$10.00$40.0020.0%
$100.00$20.00$80.0020.0%

The table reveals the main pricing issue: the flat fee consumes a large share of very small sales. At $14.75, the $2.95 fee equals exactly 20%. Below $14.75, the effective fee rate is higher than 20%.

What happens exactly at $15?

A sale at $14.99 creates a $2.95 fee and a $12.04 payout. A sale at $15 creates a $3 fee and a $12 payout. The one-cent price increase crosses into the 20% band, so the payout is four cents lower.

This does not mean every item should be priced below $15. The difference is only a few cents near the threshold, and sellers usually need room for buyer offers. It does mean you should calculate profit from the likely final sale price rather than choosing a list price by intuition.

Does Poshmark charge listing or payment-processing fees?

Poshmark’s current US seller information says listings are free and there are no separate monthly costs. Its standard selling-fee explanation presents the $2.95 or 20% deduction as the marketplace seller fee.

This makes the headline calculation easier than marketplaces with separate listing, transaction and card-processing charges. Simplicity does not automatically mean a sale is profitable, however. A single 20% fee can still be larger than several smaller charges elsewhere.

For a broader comparison, read Depop vs Poshmark vs Mercari fees. Use each marketplace’s current rules and compare the actual likely selling price, not only the advertised fee percentage.

Are Poshmark fees based on the list price or sale price?

The fee is based on the final sale price. If an item is listed at $60 but the seller accepts a $45 offer, the standard US fee is calculated from $45:

$45 × 20% = $9 fee

$45 − $9 = $36 payout

The original $60 list price does not protect the margin once a lower offer is accepted. Build an offer floor before publishing the item.

How to calculate real profit after Poshmark fees

Payout and profit are different. Payout is what remains after Poshmark’s standard seller fee. Profit subtracts the seller’s own costs too.

Profit = Sale price − Poshmark fee − Product cost − Other seller costs

Assume a jacket sells for $48. It cost $14 to source, needs $1.25 of packaging and carries $2 of allocated cleaning and travel cost.

  • Sale price: $48.00
  • Poshmark fee: $9.60
  • Payout after fee: $38.40
  • Product cost: $14.00
  • Packaging: $1.25
  • Allocated operating cost: $2.00
  • Estimated profit: $21.15

Profit margin is:

Profit margin = Profit ÷ Sale price × 100

For this example, $21.15 ÷ $48 × 100 = about 44.1%.

The Profit Margin Calculator can check this result. The guide to contribution margin also helps separate per-order costs from fixed business expenses.

How much should you list an item for?

If you know the amount you want to receive after the standard fee, reverse the calculation.

For sales expected at $15 or more:

Required sale price = Desired payout ÷ 0.80

If you want a $40 payout:

$40 ÷ 0.80 = $50 sale price

But the expected sale price is not always the list price. If buyers typically negotiate, add room for the discount you are genuinely willing to accept.

Suppose you want a $50 final sale price and plan to accept up to 20% below your list price:

Required list price = $50 ÷ 0.80 = $62.50

A practical rounded list price might be $63 or $65, depending on comparable items and buyer expectations. Do not inflate prices so far that the listing becomes uncompetitive.

Set a minimum acceptable offer

Before responding to an offer, calculate the lowest sale price that covers:

  • Sourcing or manufacturing cost
  • Poshmark seller fee
  • Packaging and preparation
  • Any seller-funded shipping discount
  • Allocated operating costs
  • Your minimum profit

For an item expected to sell at $15 or more, a simplified offer floor is:

Minimum offer = (Costs + Desired profit) ÷ 0.80

If total non-platform costs are $18 and the desired profit is $12:

($18 + $12) ÷ 0.80 = $37.50

An offer below $37.50 misses the target under those assumptions. The Discount & Sale Price Calculator helps compare an offer with the original list price.

How bundles affect seller earnings

A bundle combines multiple items into one order price. The Poshmark fee is then determined from the final bundle sale price. A bundle above $15 falls into the 20% band.

Bundles can make low-value inventory more workable because one combined sale may avoid paying the $2.95 flat fee separately on several tiny individual sales. However, a large bundle discount can erase that advantage.

Example: three $8 items sold separately would each face the $2.95 flat fee, producing total standard fees of $8.85. If the three items sell as a $24 bundle, a 20% fee is $4.80. The bundle reduces the standard fee in this example, but the seller must also account for any bundle discount and product costs.

Do shipping discounts reduce Poshmark profit?

When a seller funds a shipping discount or free-shipping offer, that contribution can reduce the order’s earnings in addition to the standard seller fee. Shipping programs and prices can change, so review the earnings preview shown by Poshmark before sending or accepting an offer.

Do not record the marketplace payout as profit if it includes a promotion you funded. Add the discount to the order’s variable costs.

US and Canada fees are not identical

This article’s main calculations use the US marketplace. Poshmark’s current Seller Updates page states that Canadian sellers pay C$3.95 on sales below C$20 and 20% on sales of C$20 or more.

Always use the policy for the marketplace where the sale occurs. Do not copy a US spreadsheet into a Canadian closet without changing the currency and threshold.

Ways to protect profit on Poshmark

Bundle very low-priced items

Create logical groups or encourage bundles when the flat $2.95 fee would consume too much of an individual sale.

Track cost by item

Record purchase price, cleaning, repairs and packaging. Without item-level cost, a healthy payout can hide a weak profit.

Price for realistic offers

Use sold comparables and a defined offer floor. Avoid accepting an offer first and calculating the result later.

Review slow inventory

Compare the benefit of holding for a higher price with cash tied up in stock. The sell-through rate guide can help identify slow items.

Compare marketplaces with net proceeds

A lower fee does not guarantee a better result if the item sells for less or takes much longer to move. Compare fee, likely price, demand, shipping and return risk together.
